"While 'finding a solution to a problem' might sound the same as 'solving a problem,' they are, in fact, different. I learned a while back that thoroughly understanding the problem, before attempting to create the solution, will result in the right solution to the problem, the first time you try.
Said another way, if you jump into problem solving as soon as you hear the problem, you might be solving the wrong problem, without ultimately finding the correct solution to the problem.
Selling Solutions vs Solving Problems
This is a quick CID Harvard video where the professor walks you through the go-to thinking that the solution to the problem is filling whatever is lacking from the stated problem.
There is usually more hiding behind the stated problem. So, if you jump in and start solving the problem as it was stated, you might be missing the unstated part of the problem.
Writing on the chalkboard is attention grabbing, for sure, but it's brief."
