"One of the resources I used to help me make my decision to transition into the e-learning instructional design space was the Dr. Luke Hobson podcasts. He is a program manager for MIT and an Online Instructor for SNHU. He created the podcast to share his experiences about instructional design practices, effective teaching methods, working with SMEs, and more. Throughout my career, I found that mentorship has been a positive contributing factor to my success. Recently, I have had an increase in my commute time, so podcasts have become a regular part of my morning routine, of course after a cup of coffee! Below are four episodes that I found helpful and two that I am looking forward to listening to.
Favorites (listed on the site):
#29-30 - Karl Kapp on Benefits and Value of Instructional Design Degrees, and To Degree or Not to Degree - In these two episodes, the hosts discuss some of the pros and cons of the varying pathways towards Instructional Design. This two were vital towards my own decision to choose this certification program (rather than going for a full Master's degree).
#12-13 - On Higher Education or Corporate Instructional Design Career Paths - Dr. Luke and Heidi Kirby share their perspectives about the differences in these workspaces. They share their experience and knowledge, which I found incredibly insightful.
Next on my playlist:
#10 - Romero Hall on Research methods in Learning Design and Technology - After taking this course, I feel like this episode would have more meaning as my context of different learning architectures has increased.
#11 - On the Secrets in the Sauce: 5 Key Ingredients to Use When Designing an Online Course from Scratch - As we continue to get more into storyboarding and with some of the upcoming courses in this program looking into different design tools, I am curious as to what are some of those tips and tricks as I begin to create different materials in this space."
