Social Cognitive Theory

The following was submitted by Cori, who states,

"Learning and training are accomplished via multiple avenues, designs, tools and architectures. But all may fail if the learner does not have enough self-efficacy to accomplish the goal.  Albert Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory helps us understand the underpinnings of learning, and helps us answer the questions,  'Why and how do some individuals learn and other do not?'

'Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) started as the Social Learning Theory (SLT) in the 1960s by Albert Bandura. It developed into the SCT in 1986 and posits that learning occurs in a social context with a dynamic and reciprocal interaction of the person, environment, and behavior.' (LAMorte, 2019, SCT, para 1).  sphweb.bumc.bu.edu/otlt/MPH-Modules/SB/BehavioralChangeTheories/Behavioral…

Below are two links that help explain self-efficacy, a key tenet of SCT, and how to build it. While this theory has been used for the development of child centered learning, the concept of self-efficacy applies in adulthood as well."
