On Teaching Concepts

Here is a post from Kim, who states:

"Here are two of my favorite articles on teaching concepts. Both are by Joe Layng, one of the founders of HeadSprout (a kids on-line reading program). What I think is really useful is the systematic process used for identifying a complete 'rational set' of examples and non-examples of a concept, ensuring that learners understand what is and is not included in a concept class.

This author teaches concepts very systematically; once the basics are well learned, he has found that there is a great deal of generative learning that follows as basic skills are combined to form more complex skills with no additional teaching. Although there is some redundancy in the articles, I included both because the first one is available at no cost on research gate."
