Powerpoint Resentment Reconsidered

This just in from Jeffrey regarding the Powerpoint tool:

"While it is easy to resent PowerPoint, instructional designers should still embrace it. It is still a great communication tool useful for all kinds of presentations. Moreover, many authoring tools are based on PowerPoint in one way or another. Some authoring tools are nothing but fancy PowerPoint plug-ins. Other authoring tools are slide-based and are clearly building off of one’s prior familiarity with PowerPoint. Finally, it is by using the vocabulary of PowerPoint—slides, transitions, animations, text boxes, content placeholders, and so forth—that instructional designers can communicate with subject matter experts who are familiar only with PowerPoint. Can you think of other reasons that instructional designers should embrace PowerPoint?

Given this crucial importance of PowerPoint, you might be interested in brushing up on your PowerPoint skills. Here is a link to an excellent free tutorial for PowerPoint beginners. Lynda.com also has some great PowerPoint tutorials. And a pro tip about Lynda.com: you can usually get a free subscription to Lynda.com through your local public library."
