Inclusive Design

Deirdre submitted the following regarding inclusive design:

"I really like this article on Inclusive Design by Henry Neves-Charge. I work for Disability Services within higher ed, and I often find myself reminding others that inclusive design benefits everyone, not just people with disabilities.

The author states: 

'...we are not our users, and there’s no way of knowing exactly how somebody is going to use our product. By following accessibility principles, we will go some way to ensure that all our users can use the thing we’re designing. In fact, by designing for inclusion we will improve the experience for everybody.'

The article refers to the Microsoft Inclusive Design document, that includes the infographic below, that reminds us of some of the ways in which the needs of our audience are diverse and ever changing."
