Build Your Media Skills

Deana contributed the following regarding media skills building for IDs.

"I teach Audio Visual Production at a public high school in Tennessee. As an AV teacher I am always trying to connect my students to our community with real world experience projects. Every spring semester I reach out to our Chamber of Commerce and we have local businesses work with my students to create a 30 second to one minute commercial to promote their business. My students gain valuable experience of working with an actual client and the businesses receive free promotional material in return. It's a win win for all of those involved.

My idea is that individuals working on building an ID portfolio that may struggle with some media could reach out to their local high school media and marketing teachers and see if their students could collaborate with them on producing materials for their course; for example: photography, creating graphics, filming their instructional videos, etc...   Many high school CTE classrooms have professional quality studios and eager students looking to develop their skills and portfolios!

I have attached an example of one the student-made commercials."
