e-Learning in Developing Countries

This just in from Bernadette:

"This article, written by Nikos Andriotis, discusses how developing countries are providing access to education through e-Learning. It's a great example of how ingenuity and need shows if there is a will there is a way to make the impossible possible.
e-Learning has become popular in developing countries such as Africa, Asia, Latin America, and in remote areas in Australia where traditional schools are not easily accessible.

It is less expensive to invest in mobile phone infrastructure than to invest in schools, classrooms, and educational materials. Approximately 80% of people in these areas have access to a cell phone and data; so, a learning management system and a few PCs are all that is required to bring education to these areas. Yet, some challenges remain: access to fast Internet speeds, and in some countries reliable electricity. Organizations such as United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and others are working to provide laptops to children in these areas."
