Why is learning transfer so hard?

Asoka contributed this article from Connie Malamed's great site. He states,

"The main part of this article that really hit home with me was the section about after learning. In my current position I do a lot of webinars where learners watch me perform the duties which they will be expected to perform after the class. But I have been running into a lot of issues with the learners remembering what I taught. I am discovering from this class that one of the reasons why that is happening is because I have not been designing my training webinars with after learning in mind.
This article helped me to reinforce that notion by pointing out that: 'Complex learning requires some type of systematic follow-up support in the form of discussion, coaching, observation and feedback, scaffolding and performance support, to name a few.'"
