Transformative Learning

Beverly submitted the following regarding Transformative Learning, stating:
"The death of education as we know it is almost guaranteed unless we adopt appropriate methodology to transform the concept of ‘classroom’ in the way we learn, absorb, participate, relate to, implement information - relevant to todays learner in the current context.
This TED talk highlights the significance of a blended methodology in e-learning.
It presents a concise recap of what we have been discussing in the last few weeks.
Key ideas of the talk:
  1. Active learning: Breaking it down into ‘lessons’ i.e. practice sequences of videos followed by exercises
  2. Self pacing: Learner controlled environment i.e. taking the course at learner’s pace and convenience
  3. Instant feedback: Gratifying, allows for multiple practice, motivates and thus is extremely engaging, thereby transforming learning into learning outcomes
  4. Gamification: Use of interactive videos, online labs etc. that is much like using gaming techniques to teach a skill/ impart knowledge etc.
  5. Peer learning: Integrating internet technologies (social media platforms and discussion forums) into the learning environment. This point is particularly relevant to our learnings in week 6 about e-Learning 2.0 engaging in constructivist learning."
